Riley sayings

I love that Riley speaks very plainly (well most things anyway) but I also love the things that she says not-quite-right. YES, I hope she says these things correctly at some point, but I always want to remember these things too - they show me she's still a little girl, they show me that while she's growing up too fast, she hasn't made it to the point where she doesn't need me quite yet. Really this is just a list for me to look back on someday to remember all those cute things she says so I don't forget because I don't think there's a spot in her baby book for things like this.

Yunyuns - Onions

He-elp
(yep 2 syllables and very southern) - Help

That's belicious - that's delicious
(thanks Aunt Sarah, I think you started this if I remember right)

Pasghetti - spaghetti
(but I think the cartoon Curious George has something to do
with this since there's a Chef Pasghetti on it)

Mazagine - Magazine

Couple While - either couple minutes or a little while, I'm not sure

I wanna tell you a snecret - secret
(and then she whispers so quietly you can't even tell what she says
how I love these secrets!)

That light is fired up - The lightbulb is burned out
That's Squeamy - That's steamy
I'm getting busy - I'm getting dizzy
Goodness Grief - Good Grief or Goodness Gracious

What silly things do your kids say that you don't want to forget?

FFF - Oh Baby

Our theme for Favorite Foto Friday this week was Oh Baby - find the first baby pics of you and your little ones. I had no problem finding pics of Riley - that was easy since she was born in the age of digital cameras - I totally forget to find some pics of me when I was a sweet newborn and scan them in though - oops. To check out more FFF go to Kiss the Frog 4 Me. Thanks again Sarah for always putting this together!!

Right after Riley was born - the dr actually took this
before they even had her all cleaned up and poked and
prodded. I had to sepia it because we looked
SO tired and that helped hide a little of our fatigue :)
Another dr photo - Riley wasn't very happy about what
she'd just gone thru and I wouldn't have been either!

But Mommy kisses make it all better :)
Daddy love
I had at least showered at this point and Riley had
been given a bath I'm still pretty tired looking though
Riley's first basketball game
I think she was less than 24 hrs old at this point
Ready to go home from the hospital - isn't she beautiful!!

We like to cook!

Did you know this girl loves to cook? I think it started when we got her a play kitchen for her for Christmas when she was one, because she's been cooking every since. Sometimes you might get a dinner of Army men, sometimes it might be some play food (she loves to grill things!), sometimes it might be some **beans, you just never know what she'll come up with next, but of course it's always DELICIOUS!!!
As she's gotten a bit older, she loves to cook "real" things now though - she loves to pour in the ingredients and she'd really like to measure things too (but I don't always let her quite yet) and stirring........ohhh how she loves to stir! If I don't get her a chair and let her help, she's not very happy - and of course I almost always oblige.
I think the best part of cooking "real" things might be the sampling though. She wants to taste each thing before she dumps it in, and of course she must sample again once it's all mixed together. She's learning some good lessons I think - she's learning hand-eye coordination, patience, how much fits into a measuring cup (and what happens if we fill it too full) and she already knows that baking powder is NOT yummy and sugar is - what great lessons!!! I think we might just have to 'learn' some more tonight and bake up some cookies!!

PS - If you have a youngster and are looking for something different - get a small plastic tub, a couple bags of beans and a box of elbow macaroni. Throw in some old measuring cups and spoons and you'll be set. Riley plays with this (and her play dishes) for hours!!! She loves "cooking" with her beans!!

Life Lessons with Riley

"I'm going to have one boy and one girl." Matter-of-fact, Riley knew exactly what she wanted for her future family. (this came after she realized not all homes - including our own - has boy and girl siblings.....she's an only child at this point you see)

Since we were already on the subject, I asked her what she was going to name her boy (she's very creative) and she said Curvis (kur-vis) - I told you she was creative! And her girl - well she "hadn't decided quite yet" but she thought maybe she would pick Charla (char-luh) and Mega (mee-gah). I guess she changed her mind at that point and wanted three kids, but I'm not sure.

Just a glimpse into life with Riley - she's soooooo creative, uses her imagination like a pro, and truly seems older than she is. Man I love this girl!

Sometimes.........

Sometimes you go to a birthday party - and have tons of fun - and get to bring home a balloon (the cool helium kind). And sometimes your Mama let's your run around nearly-naked because you were such a good girl........or because she was starting laundry and it really was easier to have everything in the washer. And sometimes, you kinda give your Mama a mean look if she makes you stop playing so she can take your picture......but if you don't look directly at the camera, maybe it doesn't count.......right?
And sometimes, when you go potty by yourself, and your undies fall off, but you insist on putting them back on yourself.............this happens.
Yep, inside out and backwards - but I guess that doesn't bother you if you are 2 1/2 and wanted to do it "all-by-myself" which happens a lot.

I won - wow, thanks!

Barb over at A Chelsea Morning was giving away some books last week and I entered, because I like to read, and it's always nice to read a book that is recommended instead of wondering if it will be good or not. I'm so excited because I won, I really won, wow - thanks Barb, I look forward to reading The Ivy Chronicles as soon as it arrives!
